Consecrated Day

A Visit to the Caribbean

An unexpected invitation to the Caribbean Islands reached the excited nuns of St. Andrew Parish a few days before 02 February 2022. Past experience told us that something exciting was in store for us, but the creative card gave us no clue as to what was coming. So, we waited with patient excitement, which grew by leaps and bounds, when they asked us for our names. Many started recalling their trip to Samara Resort a few years ago.

Well, the day dawned like any other day; but it had a touch of expectancy in it when our superior told us at breakfast that, when the bell rang between 10 and 10.30am we should all come down. I’m sure many of the nuns must have had one eye on the clock that day.

As expected, the bell rang and we came down hurriedly… no one wanted to miss the trip to the Caribbean and we were certainly not disappointed. The man from the exotic island with two lovely ladies all dressed for the sea, with lovely hats and scarves, surely took us by surprise. Darryl’s dress and his dance led us all in fantasy to the dream land, and the music kept all of us tapping our toes. Seeing our excitement, he invited us all onto the “sands” and we all danced to our hearts content.

Then came a beautiful surprise… each of us was given a visa with our names printed on it for the real trip and along with the visa, a wonderful picnic bag filled with snacks to delight the tongue and drinks to beat the heat of the Caribbean.

After they bid adieu, like excited little children we opened our picnic bags with “oohs” and “aahs” ringing in the air. You could actually touch the delighted voices crying out… CLASSIC MOJITO, another KIWI MOJITO, GREEN APPLE MOJITO, PEACH MOJITO…. Good Lord, it was never ending! Another cried out, “WATERMELON MOJITO and there’s ORANGE MOJITO too…” and as if that wasn’t enough, the shrills went louder as one cried out, “Hey, there’s ROASTED PEANUTS too…” And so, on the beach we were treated to SIZZLING TANDOORI, SMOKY BARBEQUE, PANI PURI, PERI-PERI, CHEEZE PIZZA and SMOKY MOZZARELLA. What a treat! And finally, to make the experience all the more realistic, there was a glass packed with sand. This added to our amazement… We were truly on the Caribbean Islands.

A big TanQ to the Women’s Cell of the Parish for making this day truly memorable for us.
