International Daughters' Day

Theme: Girl Child - You are precious

Parishes in Mumbai usually celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child on 08 September. Being the Year of Faith and since 08 September was the Bandra Feast Sunday, Fr. Michael thought it wise to commemorate the occasion on 22 September, it being International Daughters’ Day.

It began with a church announcement inviting parents to write appreciation letters to their daughters. These letters had to be handed over to the Parish office by the 18 September deadline. The response was overwhelming and touching because the letters were not only from parents to their daughters but to their maids as well!

Special postage stamps of St. Andrew were printed and pasted on the envelopes. Love boxes were sponsored by the Parish. The Women's Cell took it upon themselves personally to deliver the goods to daughters on the morning of 22 September. The surprise and excitement on the girls’ faces was well worth the effort, even though it meant climbing three floors!!

“Thanks a lot for the gifts for my girls, it made them happy”, “It made a difference”, “What a brilliant idea” were some of the responses received from parents. A special TanQ to Frs. Michael, Magi and the Parish team who are very supportive and generous and go out of their way to keep our parish vibrant.
